Curriculum: Grade 4

Curriculum Overview

The child crosses a threshold between ages nine and ten, leaving early childhood behind and looking at the world in an increasingly awakened state. In that first experience of their separateness, which is manifested by critical questioning, and an often-challenging voice, children can experience uncertainty and fear.

An underlying theme in Grade 4 lessons is grounding the children, making them feel at home in time and space. The study of local geography and of the human being concerning the animal kingdom and the natural world addresses the child’s newly arising inner questions: Who am I? Where am I?
